In a startling incident that has raised serious security concerns, a pistol belonging to a police officer was stolen from his residence at Naguru Police Barracks, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.
According to a police report filed at Jinja Road Police Station under SD REF 02/27/04/2025, the incident occurred on the night of April 26, 2025. No.78690 PC Ojok Joshua, aged 24, attached to the Very Important Persons Protection Unit (VIPPU) and based at Nsambya, returned home around 9:00 p.m. only to find his door ajar and his belongings ransacked.
Earlier that evening, PC Ojok, who had stayed home awaiting a work-related call from his superior, Commissioner of Police Manzi David, had briefly stepped out to Nakawa market with a colleague, Aisu Martin. Upon his return, a neighbor alerted him to the open door.
A quick inspection revealed that his pistol, serial number FX559104, loaded with sixteen rounds of ammunition, was missing from where he had hidden it under his pillow, alongside UGX 400,000 in cash.
The loss of a government firearm within a secured police facility has triggered immediate police action. PC Ojok Joshua has been arrested pending investigations, while specialized units, including a canine team, have been deployed to the scene. CCTV footage from around the barracks is being reviewed in hopes of identifying the perpetrator.
Investigators suspect that the thief could have been monitoring PC Ojok’s movements throughout the day, possibly targeting him when he was seen cleaning his firearm earlier.
Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen weapon and bring the culprit to justice. The case remains under active investigation as authorities race to contain any further security risks arising from the theft.
The incident serves as a chilling reminder of the critical need for heightened vigilance, even within the supposed safety of police barracks.
