Must read

In a continued effort to fight animal theft in the Rwizi cattle corridor, police, with the help of the K9 unit, have arrested a man suspected of stealing and slaughtering livestock. The suspect, identified as Nuwamanya Joshua, a resident of Akabaare Cell, Sanga Town Council, Kiruhura District, was taken into custody yesterday following a shocking discovery by a local farmer.

On the morning of November 16, 2025, at around 6:00 a.m., Nayebare Aggrey woke up and went to check on his kraal, only to be greeted by a gruesome sight. Several of his goats and sheep had been slaughtered, and three sheep were missing. Alarmed by the incident, Nayebare rushed to Sanga Police Station to report the crime and seek assistance in locating the perpetrators or recovering his animals.

Responding promptly, a team from the K9 unit, accompanied by a police sniffer dog and investigating officers, was dispatched to the scene in Akabaare Cell. The team carefully examined the area, and the sniffer dog successfully picked up a scent trail. Following the trail for approximately 70 meters, the dog led the officers directly to Nuwamanya Joshua’s home. There, the police found the suspect in possession of the pangas reportedly used in the slaughtering of the livestock.

Nuwamanya Joshua was immediately arrested and is now being detained at Sanga Police Station, where he will assist in ongoing investigations. Authorities have commended the swift and coordinated efforts of the police and K9 unit, emphasizing that the crackdown on livestock theft in the region will continue to ensure the safety of farmers and their animals.
