Must read

A tragic incident has shocked the community of Kodeki Village in Napak District, after a police officer lost his life following a violent fight at a local trading center. The deceased, No. 50684 PC Owinyi Luke Otto, was attached to the Kodeki ASTU detach in Napak District under the Mt. Moroto region.

The incident happened on the evening of June 9, 2025, at around 7:00 PM, when the officer left the barracks with his wife and went to Kodeki Trading Centre. According to police reports, Owinyi got involved in a gambling session playing card games. When he lost, he became angry and started a fight with some of the people he was playing with.

Seeing the situation turning violent, Owinyi’s wife ran back to the barracks and informed the in-charge that her husband was being beaten by a group of Karamajong men. The officer in charge quickly moved to the scene with other officers to handle the situation. Sadly, by the time they arrived, Owinyi had already collapsed.

The Zonal Commander of ASTU Napak was informed and contacted the police medical team. A police ambulance responded, but it was too late—Owinyi was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police have since launched a full investigation. The scene was visited by detectives from CID, homicide experts, and SOCO officers. The body was found in a supine position with visible bruises on the right arm and a cracked neck, suggesting a serious physical struggle. It was transported to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

So far, seven suspects have been arrested and are waiting to be interrogated. Police are also searching for a suspect named Acara Emmanuel, who was reportedly seen fighting with the deceased and is currently on the run.

Preliminary police findings suggest that alcohol may have played a role, as the deceased was believed to be a regular drinker.

Police say investigations are still ongoing, and more updates will be shared as the case develops.
