President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have once again shown their commitment to social development by pledging a substantial amount to support widows in Uganda. During a special gathering at their Ntungamo home, the couple hosted members of the Teso Widows Development Initiative and pledged UGX 600 million to boost their programs.
The generous donation is expected to empower widows in the Teso region by supporting initiatives that enhance their livelihoods, provide skills development, and promote economic independence. President Museveni highlighted the importance of uplifting vulnerable groups, emphasizing that empowering women, especially widows, is key to building stronger families and communities.
First Lady Janet Museveni, who has been actively involved in championing women’s causes, expressed her joy at meeting the widows and learning about their challenges and aspirations. She assured them that the government, together with supportive initiatives, remains committed to creating opportunities that allow women to thrive.
The Teso Widows Development Initiative has been instrumental in providing support to widows across the region through vocational training, financial literacy programs, and community-based projects. With this new funding, the organization plans to expand its reach and provide even more widows with tools to become self-reliant and empowered.
This gesture by President Museveni and the First Lady reflects Uganda’s ongoing efforts to prioritize social welfare and women’s empowerment, demonstrating that leadership can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who often face the greatest challenges.
