Must read

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has appealed to the general public, head teachers of primary schools, and local government authorities to cooperate with census enumerators as they conduct the national data collection exercise.

UBOS emphasizes that the success of the census depends on the full support and participation of parents and communities, urging them to provide accurate information regarding learners’ dates of birth, National Identification Numbers (NIN), and Learner Identification Numbers (LIN).The bureau noted that accurate data is essential for planning and development, and the information collected will help guide policies and programs that improve education, health, and other vital public services.

Head teachers have been specifically called upon to assist census enumerators by ensuring that all school records are up-to-date and that learners’ information is correct before enumerators visit the schools.Parents, too, are encouraged to actively participate in the exercise by providing accurate details for each child. UBOS highlighted that small errors in information, such as incorrect dates of birth, can have long-term effects on national planning and development.Local government authorities are asked to coordinate with census teams in their areas, facilitating smooth data collection and addressing any logistical challenges that may arise.

UBOS also reassured the public that the census is being conducted professionally, and all data collected will be treated with confidentiality and used only for statistical purposes. The bureau reiterated its commitment to coordinating Uganda’s National Statistical System and delivering high-quality statistical services that support informed decision-making and sustainable development.

Through cooperation between the public, schools, and local authorities, UBOS aims to ensure a successful and accurate national census, which will benefit the country for years to come.UBOS concluded by encouraging all stakeholders to see the census not just as a government exercise, but as a vital tool for national progress that requires collective responsibility.
