Kampala Police Arrest 25 Suspects in Bold Phone Snatching Spree

Must read

The Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested a group of criminals involved in violent phone snatching along the Northern Bypass. The suspects targeted motorists and passengers, particularly during heavy traffic hours, creating fear among road users.

The arrests followed a police operation conducted on 5th December 2025. During the operation, officers caught 25 suspects red-handed taking phones from victims stuck in traffic around the Double Q area.

Police also impounded eight motorcycles that were being used by the suspects to carry out their criminal activities. These bikes were a key tool in the crimes, allowing the suspects to move quickly between victims.

Several witnesses have already recorded statements, and video footage showing the suspects in action has been collected. This evidence will be used to support the ongoing investigations and eventual prosecution of the criminals.

All the suspects are currently detained at Nateete Police Division, where they are being held while investigations continue. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO of Kampala Metropolitan Police, assured road users that police deployments during traffic jam hours will continue, especially with the festive season approaching. He said the police are committed to curbing crime and ensuring the safety of everyone using the roads.
