Police across Kampala and surrounding divisions carried out a major crackdown on criminal activities on 4th March 2026, aiming to make the city safer for residents. The coordinated operations targeted known black spots and areas frequently associated with robbery, phone and bag snatching, theft of vehicle parts, and other illegal activities.
The operations were carried out in multiple locations, including Kevina Road in Kabalagala Division, Kikuuta in Namataba Town Council (Mukono District), Kyebando near Premax Hotel and Kisalasalo in Kira Road Division, as well as Nkurumah Road and Entebbe Road traffic lights under CPS Kampala, and Luzira–Portbell in the Jinja Road Police Division.
A total of 39 suspects were arrested during these operations. Some were found in possession of stones and pavers allegedly used to attack victims, while others had suspected narcotics on them. Police confirmed that these individuals were taken from areas known for harbouring criminals, ensuring the community would have a safer environment.
All arrested suspects have been officially charged under the respective Station Diary references and are now detained at local police stations while awaiting prosecution. This swift action underscores the commitment of the Kampala Metropolitan Police to hold offenders accountable.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, emphasized that both overt and covert operations will continue across the city. Regular patrols and intelligence-led interventions are being strengthened to dismantle criminal networks and prevent future crime.
Authorities assured the public that the situation in the affected areas remains calm and normal. Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant but also reassured that the police are actively working to maintain law and order in all corners of the city.
These operations highlight the police’s proactive approach to combating crime and creating safer streets for everyone in Kampala and surrounding divisions.
