Must read

The Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified their efforts to restore safety in urban and peri-urban communities, carrying out coordinated operations across several divisions between 4th and 5th November 2025. These operations targeted criminal hideouts, drug users, and habitual offenders who have been terrorizing residents, and have already yielded significant results.

In Kajjansi Division, police conducted operations in Lweza B, Kilyamuli, Akright, and Kawotto, arresting 44 suspects involved in marijuana use, theft, and other public disturbances. Notably, two juveniles were intercepted while attempting to break into a poultry house, highlighting the police’s focus on preventing crime before it occurs.

Old Kampala Division also saw extensive police activity, with 60 suspects apprehended in areas such as Namungona, Nakulabye, the New Taxi Park, and Mukwano Roundabout. These arrests were connected to possession of breaking implements, suspected narcotics, and attempts to commit felonies, showing a determined effort to tackle criminal behavior head-on.

In Kabalagala Division, 45 suspects were arrested in Nsamya, Kamwanyi, and Kataba, primarily for drug possession and street muggings, while Matugga Division operations along the Matugga–Gulu Highway, Gombe, and Lwadda areas targeted phone and bag snatching, as well as drug use during evening traffic hours.

Police operations extended beyond Kampala city to Mukono District, where multiple sweeps in Goma and Central Divisions led to the arrest of 47 suspects across Katwe–Bukerere, Namave Industrial Park, and areas including Kitega, Wantoni, Benghazi, and Kikooza. Similarly, in Kira Division, operations in Nsasa and Bulindo resulted in the arrest of 8 suspects found with suspected narcotics.

In total, 204 suspects were apprehended during these operations. All individuals are undergoing screening and will be processed for prosecution in courts of law. The police have commended local leaders and community members for their cooperation, which has played a key role in dismantling criminal networks and making neighborhoods safer.

These coordinated operations demonstrate the commitment of Kampala Metropolitan Police to uphold law and order, prevent crime, and protect citizens from the growing threat of drug abuse, theft, and other criminal activities. Residents are urged to continue supporting security agencies by sharing information that can help keep their communities safe.
