Kampala Police Crack Down! Over 400 Arrested in Metro-Wide Operations

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area and surrounding districts have stepped up efforts to fight crime, carrying out a series of disruptive operations that led to the arrest of hundreds of suspects. The coordinated operations, conducted in different divisions of Kampala and Wakiso, targeted areas known for criminal activities, ensuring public safety and community protection.

In the Kira Division of Wakiso District, police carried out operations on 24th February 2026 at around 8:00 PM in Mulawa Trading Centre and Najjera Kamwanyi, arresting 81 suspects. Similarly, in Old Kampala Division, between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM on the same day, operations in Kisenyi Zone, Muza Zone, and nearby areas resulted in 152 arrests, highlighting the scale of the crackdown in the city center.

Further operations were conducted in Kira Road Division, covering Universal Kisaasi Sector, Kamwokya, and Kyebando, where 49 suspects were arrested on 25th February. In Jinja Road Division – Nakawa, late-night operations on 24th February in Center Zone, Kaggo Buyinja, and Kinawataka led to 20 arrests. Meanwhile, Nansana Police conducted operations shortly after midnight on 25th February, arresting 48 suspects.

The police also intensified crime prevention in Wakiso Police Division, with operations in Wakiso Town on 24th February resulting in 23 arrests. In Bulenga Area, which covers Musoke Road, Kawuzi Street, Gogonya, and Kikaaya Katogo, police arrested 50 suspects between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Operations in Kajjansi Police Division also led to six arrests in Kilyamuli, Kilumba, and Namulanda Ward, Kajjansi Town Council.

During the operations, police recovered various exhibits, including opium rolls, house-breaking tools, and implements used for theft and public nuisance. All suspects are currently in police custody, with cases of opium possession and public nuisance opened against them. Authorities say the suspects will be screened and produced before the courts in due course.

SP Racheal Kawala, representing the Kampala Metropolitan Police, emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to make the city safer and reduce crime, reassuring the public that the police are committed to maintaining law and order across the metropolitan area.
