Land Fraud Scheme Exposed, Fake State House Employee Charged

Must read

In a joint operation, Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), has charged Mawejje John with personation. The accused has been remanded in custody until 19th November 2025, as investigations continue.

The case stems from an incident on 11th July 2025 at Embassy House in Kampala, where Mawejje allegedly claimed to be an employee of the State House. He reportedly used this false identity to deceive Namakula Rose Mary, attempting to manipulate her into presenting documents related to a land transaction. Investigators say Mawejje instructed Namakula to appear at the President’s office in State House for a so-called “investigation meeting” concerning a property she had sold in 2004. The house, located in Maganjo Zone, Nabweru Town Council, Wakiso District, had been sold to Weraga Robert, and Mawejje sought signed transfer forms connected to the sale.

Authorities acted swiftly, arresting Mawejje and recovering several documents linked to the land transaction before formally charging him with personation. This case highlights the growing vigilance of Uganda’s anti-corruption agencies and the need for the public to remain cautious against individuals impersonating government officials for personal gain.
