Earlier today in Soroti City, the Eastern Region officially launched the #RFC2026 program with great excitement and energy. Participants gathered for opening sessions that introduced them to the world of film through basic training and warm introductions. The atmosphere was full of curiosity and hope as both newcomers and experienced creators came together with one goal: to learn, create, and tell powerful local stories through film.
The first day focused on building a strong foundation. Trainers guided participants through storytelling basics, filmmaking tools, and creative techniques. Many were seeing cameras and editing equipment in a professional setting for the first time, while others were sharpening skills they already had. Every session encouraged teamwork and open discussion, helping participants gain confidence in expressing their ideas. The training showed them that film is not only about technology, but also about sharing real stories from their communities.
Throughout the week, the program will offer workshops, collaborative filming projects, and public screenings. These activities will allow participants to practice what they learn and support each other’s creativity. The experience is designed to inspire growth, spark imagination, and turn local stories into meaningful films that reflect the culture and everyday life of the Eastern Region.
All these efforts will lead to the grand finale on the 6th, the Eastern Region Awards Gala. This special event will celebrate the best creative work produced during the week and honor outstanding talent from the region. It will be a moment of pride for filmmakers and a chance for the community to see how storytelling can bring people together. Through #RFC2026, the Eastern Region is proving that powerful stories can rise from local voices and shine across Uganda.
