Major Road Closures and Guidelines Ahead of Budget Reading on June 12

Must read

As Uganda prepares for the national budget reading on 12th June 2025, the public is being informed of important traffic changes that will be in effect from 5:00 am to 7:00 pm on that day. These changes are aimed at ensuring the event goes smoothly and safely, especially with the presence of top government officials and invited guests.

According to the official advisory, several key roads in Kampala will remain open to regular traffic. Jinja Kampala Road, Yusuf Lule Road, and John Babiiha Road will continue to operate normally, meaning motorists can use these routes without restrictions. However, some roads near Kololo Independence Grounds, where the budget event will be held, will be temporarily closed.

Lower Kololo Terrace will be blocked, preventing cars from joining it from John Babiiha Road. Upper Kololo Terrace will also be closed off completely, making it inaccessible to all motorists. In addition, Wampewo Avenue will be cut off at two points—near Housing Finance Bank and at the Kololo traffic lights—limiting movement in and around the venue.

To accommodate invited guests, specific parking and access routes have been set aside. Vehicles carrying VVIPS with special stickers will use the western gate and will park behind the VIP seating area. VIPS and other invited guests will enter through the eastern gate along Wampewo Avenue and park there. Additional parking will be available at UMI and Hotel Africana for other guests.

Motorists across Kampala are urged to pay close attention to these traffic changes and follow the instructions given by traffic officers. Cooperation from the public will help avoid traffic jams and make sure the event proceeds without disruptions.

For anyone planning to be in or around Kololo on June 12th, it is important to plan ahead and consider alternative routes. The authorities are working hard to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during this important national event.
