Must read

The Joint task force carried out a major security operation on 16th February 2026 across several parts of Wakiso District and Kampala as part of ongoing efforts to fight crime and improve public safety. The coordinated operations targeted areas that had been identified as hotspots for suspected criminal activity, especially involving narcotic substances and related offenses.

In Wakiso District, the operations focused on Nansana West Ward, Kyebando and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality. Security teams also conducted operations in Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality, as well as Kyanja under the Kira Road Policing Area. Within Kampala, selected black spots in the Central Business District were also targeted.

According to the task force, these areas had become known gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities that have been affecting residents and members of the public. The operations were aimed at dismantling such gathering points and restoring a sense of safety within the communities.

As a result of the coordinated crackdown, a total of 255 suspects were arrested. In Nansana and the surrounding areas, 65 suspects were apprehended. In Kira Municipality, 38 suspects were arrested, while 16 suspects were picked up in Kyanja. The largest number of arrests was recorded within the Central Business District of Kampala, where 136 suspects—134 males and 2 females—were taken into custody.

All the suspects were screened and charged with offenses related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes. They are currently being held at their respective police stations as they await processing and court appearance. During the operations, security teams also recovered exhibits of suspected narcotic substances.

The joint task force described the operations as successful and emphasized that they form part of broader, ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements and maintain law and order. The Uganda Police Force has assured the public that similar operations will continue in different parts of the country to ensure the continued safety and security of all citizens.
