The Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has called on leaders and stakeholders across Busoga to embrace unity and work collectively to improve the lives of the Basoga people and future generations.
Speaking at a regional preparatory meeting for her upcoming thanksgiving ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, Minister Babalanda addressed RDCs, DRDCs, ARDCs, CAOs, DISOs, and NRM leaders gathered at Jinja City Hall. She emphasized that unity among leaders is essential for the region’s growth and transformation.
“As leaders, we must put our people first. History and future generations will judge us by what we do today,” she said. “We are answerable not only to our voters but also to God.”
Minister Babalanda expressed concern over continued divisions among NRM members in the region, noting President Museveni’s frustration with internal conflicts that have hindered progress. She warned that other regions are advancing while Busoga remains held back by factionalism.
She reiterated that her thanksgiving is more than a personal event—it will also serve as a show of support for President Museveni and the NRM, aiming to boost the party’s performance in upcoming elections.
The Minister congratulated newly elected NRM leaders and encouraged those who did not win to join hands with the victors in strengthening party unity.
Busoga RDC Whip, Richard Gulume, outlined key issues affecting the region’s support for NRM, including government inaction on sugarcane farming challenges and the neglect of the fisheries sector. He welcomed President Museveni’s signing of the Sugar Bill, calling it a positive step forward.
In response, RDCs and other regional leaders pledged to intensify mobilization efforts to ensure stronger electoral support for President Museveni. They also committed to standing by Minister Babalanda during her thanksgiving event.
Also in attendance was Hon. Fredrick Mbagadhi Nkaayi, Commissioner for RDCs in the Kampala Metropolitan area, along with other key government and party officials.
