Must read

Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba officially opened the Kambaala Christmas Tournament, a football competition bringing together talented youth from Busujju County. The opening match took place on August 15 at Kambaala playground, where Kambaala Football Club faced Team Nabakooba Lubajja FC. The match ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for Lubajja, setting an exciting tone for the tournament.

Speaking at the event, Minister Nabakooba encouraged young people to actively participate in the games, emphasizing that sports not only develop talent but can also open doors to bigger opportunities. “You are aware of the ongoing CHAN2025 league at Namboole Stadium. One of you could be the next to play for the Uganda Cranes team. Let’s not take this lightly,” she said, noting that many players from Busujju County FC started their careers through similar local competitions. She also promised to continue supporting youth initiatives in the area to help transform their lives.

The Kambaala Christmas Tournament was inspired by Mr. David Kibuuka, captain of Team Nabakooba Lubajja FC. He revealed that a total of 12 teams have registered to compete in the event. The tournament offers exciting prizes to motivate participants: the champions will take home a bull and a trophy, while the runners-up will receive a goat and medals. “We have so many talented youths in this area, but they often do not get the chance to showcase their abilities,” Mr. Kibuuka explained.

The tournament will feature teams including Kasota FC, Kambaala, Maanyi, Banda, Buzibazi, Mawanga, Bulabakulu, Kimuli, Kivuuvu, and Team Nabakooba Lubajja among others. The finals are scheduled for Christmas Day, with Minister Nabakooba set to officiate as the Chief Guest. Additionally, the tournament will recognize the best player, providing another opportunity to celebrate local talent. Each team paid a registration fee of Shs100,000 to participate, showing their commitment to the competition and the growth of football in Busujju County.
