Aviation Police Intercepts 44 Girls Being Trafficked to Dubia, Arrests UAERA Executive Director

Aviation Police at Entebbe International Airport yesterday intercepted a group of 44 young girls who were being trafficked to Dubai by unknown people and arrested Uganda Association of External Recruitment Agencies (UAERA) Executive Director.

According to KMP spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the UAERA ED was arrested after a yet be identified person who claimed to be a Police officer from CPS went to UAERA offices at BMK house and wanted to take one of the girls.

“When he was denied, he went and reported to KMP that some girls were being trafficked by UAERA. Jinja road Police ended up picking the ED UAERA and took her to Jinja road station.” He said

Onyango adds that the victims were to fly out using tourist visas while using Fly Dubai airlines.

“After being intercepted, they all recorded statements and were allowed to return home. However, the majority of the victims after being offloaded did not have any money to transport them back home.”he said.

The UAERA which has been working hand in hand with the Police and other security agencies at the airport to fight Human Trafficking, came in to assist the young ladies by giving them the necessary counseling and transport back home.

At least 24 ladies were provided with assistance by UAERA so as to re-unite with their families.

Onyango notes that no suspect has been arrested, but the hunt is on for the traffickers
