Court Drops Charges Against Remanded Nigerian Singers

Makindye Chief magistrates court has dropped the charges against Nigerian artistes Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems who were arrested for flouting COVID-19 rules in the country after they both held a controversial concert in Kampala

According to release order to Kitalya prison signed by Grade One Magistrate Okumu Jude Muwone, the charges against the accused have been withdrawn.

“The charges against the accused as Stanley Omah Didia and as Muyiwa Awonyi has been withdrawn against them vide withdrawal form Serial No, 4292 dated 15th December 2020.” Read part of the release order.

“This is to direct you to release Stanley Omah Didia and  Muyiwa Awonyi the said accused persons from your custody forthwith unless on other charges.” it added.

 

The artistes were being held on the offense of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, which is Coronavirus after they held a concert in violation of the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
