COVID-19: Uganda Registers 43 New Cases as Total Shoots up to 1,603

The ministry of health Uganda has confirmed forty three (43) new COVID19 cases from 3,905 samples tested on 17th August, 2020.

Of the 19 confirmed cases, 32 are alerts, five (5) are contacts to previously confirmed cases, while the other five (5) are truck drivers and one (1) is a returnee from Kenya.

Regarding the 32 alerts cases, sixteen (16) are from Kampala, seven (7) are from Namisindwa, five (5) from Arua, while the other four (4) are from Omoro, Gulu, Kasese and Buikwe.

The five (5) contacts include three (3) from kampala Metropolitan area, and two (2) are from Wakiso well as among the 5 truck drivers, four (4) arrived from Kenya via Malaba and one (1) arrived from South Sudan via Madi Opei points of entry.

According to the ministry, a total of eleven (11) foreign truck drivers including 10 Kenyans and 1 Congolese who tested positive for COVID19 were not allowed in to the country.

To date, Uganda registers a total of 1,603 confirmed COVID19 cases , 1,165 recoveries and fiffteen (15) deaths.
