COVID-19: Uganda Registers Two More Deaths as 14 Test Positive

Uganda has registered two COVID19 deaths today. This brings the total number of COVID19 deaths to nine (9).

The deceased are a 27 year old male from Kyangwali refugee settlement in Hoima who passed away at Hoima Regional Referral hospital and a 46 year old male resident of Kampala who died at Nsambya referral hospital

According to the ministry, they both had signs and symptoms consistent to COVID-19.

Relatedly, the ministry of health Uganda has confirmed fourteen (14) new COVID-19 cases from 2,435 samples tested on 09th August, 2020.

Of the 14 confirmed cases, nine (9) are contacts to previously confirmed cases from Kampala Metropolitan Area, three (3) are alerts while the other two (2) are truck drivers.

Regarding the alerts, one (1) is from Kampala Metropolitan area, one (1) from Ntungamo and another one (1) from Hoima who succumbed to the disease.

Among the truck drivers, one (1) arrived from Kenya via Malaba while one arrived fom DRC via Goli point of entry.

According to the ministry, five (5) foreign truck drivers including 3 Kenyans and 2 Congolese who tested positive for COVID19 were not permitted entry in to the country.

To date, Uganda registers a cumulative total of 1,297 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 1,137 recoveries and nine (9) COVID19 deaths.
