The district Local Council V Chairman, Kisoro Abel Bizimana has said that civil servants who are adamantly shunning the COVID-19 vaccine will lose their jobs.
Speaking during a function of issuing land certificates to residents held yesterday at Kisoro district headquarters, Bizimana said the government will not force anyone to take the jabs, but those who opt not to get inoculated will have to vacate their positions.
Bizimana challenged teachers in Kisoro district to go for vaccination exercise as government prepares to open schools or else they risk being deleted from the payroll.
He said that the vaccine was approved by the world health organization and those de-campaigning it are enemies of the country.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner, retired captain Peter Mugisha added his voice and revealed that starting by the end of next week, security officers in the district will raise roadblocks in different area to stop the movement of unvaccinated people.
He gave residents of 18 and above years a 7 days ultimatum to have got vaccinated as those without vaccination cards won’t access government services and will be stopped from accessing public places such as markets, churches, public transport among others.
Mugisha noted that Kisoro district is yet to receive more than 150,000 doses of vaccine which will be followed by massive immunization on Friday this week.
He encouraged local leaders to rally people to get vaccinated as a means of containing the spread of the virus, which would in turn allow governments to fully reopen their economies.
