Chief Magistrate of Iganga Court has today granted a non cash bail to the president of National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
Bobi wine was arrested on Wednesday as he was heading to Luuka district for his presidential campaigns. He was detained at Nalufenya police station in Jinja.
Bobi wine arrived at Iganga court at around midday under tight security comprised of Counter terrorism police and UPDF. Early in the morning, there was heavy deployment at Iganga court by police and army.
Local residents were not allowed to access court premises as security suspected chaos when Bobi wine arrives. Security only allowed Bobi wine’s close relatives, few party officials and his lawyers.
However by the time he was in detention, his supporters across the world have been on rioting demanding for his release.
More than 30 people have been killed by security forces during the three (3) day protests , police has also arrested more than 400 Bobi wine supporters in Kampala who will be charged on different counts.
Bobi wine will return to court on 18th December 2020 for mention of his case.
