The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has today received some Covid19 fighting equipments that were donated by Leonardo Company an Italian based company through Italy Embassy in Uganda.
The fighting equipments which were received by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi on behalf of UPDF included two portable respirators among others.
Speaking at the receiving ceremony held at the ministry of Defence headquarters in Mbuya Kampala CDF Gen Muhoozi thanked the Italian ambassador in Uganda H.E Massimiliano Mazzarati for having chosen to support UPDF in the fight against deadly COVID-19, with the respirators that Uganda needed at this time.
Gen Muhoozi further extended his thanks to Leonardo Company for maintaining their longstanding relationship with UPDF.
UPDF Boss added that the respirators would be utilized at Bombo Military Hospital and State House Military Hospital.
In his remarks, the Italian Ambassador Massimiliano Mazzarati recognized the selfless service the UPDF soldiers have offered in Uganda and the peacekeeping efforts within the region, especially AMISOM.
“We thought of something more concrete to cement our friendship with the UPDF and the best way to express this appreciation is in terms of donating these two respirators especially during these times of COVID-19”. Says Italian Ambassador in Uganda
Other UPDF Generals who attended the meeting were Joint Chief of Staff,(JCOS) Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu, the Commander Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Lutaaya, Commanding Officer UPDF Marines, Brig. Gen. Michael Nyarwa, the Defence Spokesperson, Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, delegation from the Italian Embassy in Uganda and Leonardo Company among others.
