Gen Katumba Orders Police To Reinstate Fika Salama Operations

According to the Minister of Works and Transport Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, Uganda is one of the only countries where one has to look both sides before crossing a one way road.

With the coming of the festive season, the number of road accidents in the country is known to rise because to the frequent road users.

The occurrence of road accents is not something that the Ministry of works and Transport is ready to watch therefore the Minister has called for the strengthening of the Fika Salama Operation as a measure to reduce the number of road accidents before and after the festive season.

“You have failed to observe discipline on the road. You have failed to wait for five seconds then you cause an accident that will inflict a toddler who has lost a parent because of the accident.” Says Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala.

According to Acting Director of Traffic Bazil Mugisha, Police is going to enhance their activities by increasing check points and those who are not complaint will be penalized.

This commitment is in line with United Nations Road Safety Framework of 2021-2030.

The target is to reduce road traffic deaths and serious injuries by 50%.
