President Yoweri Museveni has been nominated to run as the presidential candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in the 2021 general elections.
Museveni arrived at Kyambogo Cricket Grounds for his nomination accompanied by the first lady Janet Museveni and received by Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama and his team.
“I, Justice Simon Byabakama, declare Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa, a duly nominated presidential candidate for the 2021 general election…I want to commend the first aspiring candidate for keeping time. If any candidate tests positive, (s) he will be nominated in absentia,” EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama said.
After his nomination, Museveni called for peace and said anyone who tries to bring chaos will be dealt with.
“I am the president, and I hear so many things. I hear there are people who want to destabilize peace. Those who want to do that will regret it,” Museveni said in a brief address.
Museveni is expected to launch his 2021 to 2026 election manifesto this afternoon at Munyonyo Common Wealth Resort.
