Police in Kampala has started a serious hunt for people power supporters in Kawempe who thumped a police officer to near death after he tried to disperse them from converging on an illegal rally.
The attacked officer has been identified as ASP Kitaka Umar, who works as OC Operations Kawempe Police Station.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, some people were fighting in Bwaise and when he went to settle them, some wrong doers came and attacked him.
He added that the officer later went to the nearby clinic and got some treatment but he is healing.
This is the fourth incident in a week where police officers have been thumped by opposition people. It all started on Monday when opposition people disarmed a police officer and went with the gun. Police later arrested the Local areas Chairperson and two others.
The other incident occurred in Kiseka market where a police female police officer was also serious beaten by people power supporters.
Along Mityana Road, people also fought police officers after knocking someone’s car and tried to run away. The officer tried to stop them and in amidst he was grabbed and he fired live bullets.
