Jinja road police is holding two suspects who have been stealing people in taxis.
The suspects have been identified as Kasirivu Wilberforce and KyazzeTaibu who have been operating taxi registration number UAZ 094D plying from Kampala to Mukono.
Luke Owoyesigire the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson says their arrest followed after 10 passengers were stolen from the same taxi.
The victim reported the matter to Jinja Road police before DPC Jackson Mucunguzi together with a team of officers from Crime Intelligence disguised as passengers and boarded the same vehicle.
The driver and the conduct were subsequently arrested and are being detained at Jinja road police together with their taxi.
They have been charged with theft in taxi.
Statistics indicate that number of goons who have been apprehended and prosecuted over taxi robberies.
Police say such cases were common last year, especially in areas of Ntinda and Luzira in Nakawa Division and Nansana Municipality in Wakiso District.
Robberies in taxis date around 1998 and increased in early 2000s when some people bought new taxis purposely to use them in robberies.
The thugs could rob passengers and afterwards hide vehicles in compounds of powerful people in security and government.
