Police Officer Sentenced to Rank Reduction over Assaulting Hon. Cecilia Ogwal

Uganda Police Force Disciplinary Court sitting at headquarters in Naguru has today morning sentenced its officer by reducing his rank after being found guilty of assaulting Dokolo district woman MP Hon. Cecilia Ogwal in 2017.

Court which was chaired by Acting Director Interpol and Peace Support Operations SCP Birungi Charles sentenced SP Tubanone Joel by reducing his rank after pleading guilty on two counts of using unnecessary force.

The accused was convicted and sentenced on his own plea of guilty and did not waste court time.His right to appeal this sentence within 14 fourteen days was explained to him.

The Deputy Spokesperson for the Uganda Police Force Polly Namaye says the court in exercise of objectivity and fairness to both the accused and the complainant, heard from both parties and convicted the accused on both counts.

She adds that the sentencing also put into consideration the pain and inconveniences endured by the complainant as a result of the unwarranted actions of the accused, basing on his own plea of guilty.

Namaye says the court made this decision with the aim to deter the accused and all other police officers from using unnecessary force in executing their lawful duties.
