Police Summons Gen Tumukunde Over Secret Meetings With Top Army Veteran Officers

The Directorate of criminal investigations have summoned Presidential hopeful Rtd. Gen. Herny Tumukunde over holding secret meetings with top army veteran officers discussing issues related to politics.

Gen Tumukunde was summoned by the Director Criminal Investigations AIGP Grace Akullo for an interview and to record a statement CID vide HQTRS GEF: 787/2020.

“The directorate of criminal investigations is investigating allegations to the effect that on a number of occasions at your office and residence both in Kololo and other locations with in the country, you have led meetings with Army veterans discussing issues related to politics.” Read part of the summon.

AIGP Akullo adds that Tumukunde’s actions if true, contravenes section of the 1995 constitution and the UPDF Act.

“Pursuant to section 27A of the Police Act as amended, you are summoned at appear at CID Headquarters on the 19th August, 2020 at 14 hours.” Akullo said.

Gen Tumukunde was recently arrested on Tuesday at Njeru Police Station in Buikwe District where he was briefly held for meeting with his supporters without observing the Ministry of Health guidelines against Covid-19.

In March, a joint team of police and military intelligence raided Mr Tumukunde’s office in Kololo and arrested him and later charged him with treason.
