Police in Mbarara has warned the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine against causing chaos in the new city ahead of the launch of their manifesto set to take place tomorrow on Saturday.
“Kyagulanyi is launching manifesto in Mbarara city on Saturday 7th November 2020. We strongly warn him to abide by the Ministry of Health and Electoral Commission guidelines.” said the Uganda Police Counter Terrorism Director and the Police Zonal Commander for Ankole, Kigezi region AIGP Abas Byakagaba
The police chief adds the that all processions, rallies and unregulated assemblies contravene the Electoral Commission road map.
“Ensure to stay within the provided limitations while launching the party manifesto or else police will not hesitate to stop the meeting if it is bound to cause chaos in the city.” Byakagaba warned the NUP.
“We have response teams against any forms of threats and vulnerabilities like violent demonstrations, hooliganism, sabotage, provocative behavior and cybercrimes among others.” He added.
He also warned the other politicians to desist from early campaigns.
“We have registered concerns of politicians actively soliciting for vote at various functions, disturbing campaign materials, putting up posters, holding illegal rallies, assemblies and campaign meetings before the campaign period. We would like to caution all individuals and political actors that this is against the Electoral roadmap and guidelines.” Byakagaba said.
