“I therefore call upon all the film makers present today to reflect on our country’s priorities and use your talent in helping us achieve them.” Nabakooba said.

Speaking at the function of Uganda Film festival award whose theme was  Rebuilding a resilient Industry through the Pandemic, the minister said that this is an important theme to reflect about especially today as we all work hard to move past the COVID-19 pandemic.

She revealed that His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni is challenging all of us to focus on wealth creation and improving people’s livelihoods.

The minister said that the film industry can support this journey of improving people’s livelihoods because they have seen this industry transform nations.

“In Africa we see what is happening in Nigeria through Nollywood, India we know what Bollywood has done and Hollywood in the US.” Nabakooba said.

She explained that the cinema industry in these countries has turned into a huge sector employing millions of people and bringing in revenue, adding that in the recent past, Uganda too has produced internationally competitive movies such as Queen of Katwe, Last King of Scotland at many others.

Nabakooba noted that all these movies have had a connection with the Uganda Film Festival under UCC which she said that it has successfully guided and nurtured an industry that has achieved so much in such a short period of time.

“In a special way, allow me to thank my team at Uganda Communication’s Commission for the leadership since 2013.You have successfully guided and nurtured an industry that has achieved so much in such a short period of time. “She remarked.
