President Museveni has instructed government to allow all candidates and finalists to return to school with immediate effect.
According to Museveni, the cost of waiting is too much and that with only 2 million students returning to school, there will be a good chance of practicing social distancing in the school communities.
“The schools will now open in a limited way, P.7, S.4 and S.6 candidates and finalists in all higher institutions of learning will all return to school.” Museveni said.
“A solution for the remaining batch of learners will be found by January 2021,” he added.
In the same vein, Museveni announced that places of worship will be allowed to open, especially for confessions and counselling.
He directed that the places of worship observe the SOPs and gatherings should not exceed 70 people.
The President also announced that sports activities will be allowed top resume provided there are no spectators. However, gyms and indoor sports centers are to remain closed since it is hard for them to observe the SOPs.
Museveni said the international Airport will open to tourists with immediate effect. He said those coming to must show certificate of testing negative 72 hours before they arrive in the country and provided tour operators make sure that the tourists do not mix with the community.
He also announced that restrictions on border districts had been removed but the night curfew between 9pm and 6am remains.
