Police in Arua is holding three security guards over allegations of stealing an ambulance vehicle belonging to Arua Regional Referral Hospital.
According to Josephine Angucia the police spokesperson for West Nile, the hospital ambulance reg number UG 6812M went missing from the hospital parking yard in the night of 27th/03/2021 at unknown time.
“The hospital ambulance went missing on 27th /03/2021 from the hospital parking yard,”says Josephine Angucia.
Josephine adds that the following morning, a case of theft was reported at Arua police station by Avaga Johnstone Norman 35 years, a lugbara by tribe who is the head of security at the hospital and also resident of hospital staff quarters.
The police mouthpiece says that police acted immediately by opening a case file of stealing a motor vehicle vide Arua CRB 305/2021 and all relevant statements were obtained from the hospital, scene of crime was visited and documented before arresting three security guards who worked on the fateful nights when the vehicle was stolen.
The arrested suspects whose names are still concealed in order not to jeopardize investigations are currently detained at Arua central police station as inquiries are still on going.
The police mouthpiece said that the stolen ambulance is one of the those that government gave recently to Arua Regional referral hospital to assist in emergencies in cases of covid 19 and other sicknesses that need immediate attention.
Police mouthpiece urged members of the community to share information widely with police so as to recover the stolen ambulance since it serves the community in times of emergencies especially in this period of covid 19.
