Police and other security agencies yesterday arrested more than 200 city criminals during day and night operations.
According to security sources who conducted the massive operations say most criminals were arrested in the areas of Kiseka market, Arua Park , Nakivubo, Katwe, Kisenyi, Old Kla, Natete among others.
“These criminals were staging road blocks on roads connecting city center and suburb areas and robbing people who were moving on foot during evening hours,” says a senior police officer who was part of the operation.
The officer added when women who were robbed of their valuables complained, police and army swang into action and carried out a serious operation where hundreds of criminals were netted.
Security sources further said, criminals were also robbing women who were driving themselves in their personal cars.
“Those fools were putting some heavy logs in the middle of the road and started demanding money from women where driving heading home.”
Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrests.
“Yes we carried out operation and hundreds of criminals were arrested and will be taken to courts of law for prosecution,”says Onyango.
He added that they will be charged with robbery, theft, assault among others.
Onyango however says the city remains clam and traffic and businesses are moving on normally and there is no worry.
