Police in Kireka has arrested six of its police officers after intelligence reports leaked that they demanded bribe from Emmanuel Kabanda to have his motor cycle released. However when Kabanda failed to raise their bribe, he decided to burn himself at the Station. He was later rushed to Kirrudu Hospital where he was pronounced dead days later.
Deputy Kampala Police mouthpiece ASP Luke Owoyesigyire however noted that six police officers attached to Kireka Police station have since been arrested for asking for allegedly asking for a bribe from the deceased before releasing his motorbike.
Luke identified the arrested cops as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mulinde, Corporal Francis Twinomujuni, Corporal Joan Nakisige, Constable Norman Higenyi, Detective Constable Martha Logose and Constable Robert Bintamye.
On Sunday, Emmanuel Kabanda’s motorcycle was among those impounded by police at Kireka for flouting the presidential directive on Corona virus.
In July, a boda-boda rider set himself on fire inside a traffic police office at Masaka Central Police Station after police officers asked him for a shs40,000 bribe before releasing his impounded motorbike.
Following failed attempts to have his motorbike released for free, Hussein Walugembe, 29 set himself on fire and died.
Consequently, two police officers including Sgt. Julius Ewalu , the Station Major and Sgt Ibrahim Ssesanga the acting OC Traffic at Masaka Central Police Station were dismissed from the force with disgrace by the Police disciplinary court after being found guilty of tainting the police image.
