A senior police officer may soon be arrested and prosecuted before courts of law after intelligence reports have linked him to being behind issuing fake police warrant cards to city criminals who use them in committing city crimes, Spyreports has learnt.
The senior police officer whose particulars cannot be revealed as investigations are still on going holds a rank of Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP).
According to police sources, the senior police officer was pinned by one Frank Rujeru Sabit who is currently behind bars at Katwe Police Station. He was found with a police warrant card number 16609 at the rank of ASP.
Police says Rujeru was arrested after he hired a motor vehicle registration number UBD 662T which belongs to one Wovugira Emma Yonah and failed to pay. “This man came to me and identified a senior police officer at the Rank of ASP attached to crime intelligence and hired my car. He left behind his police Warrant card as his security and promised to come return my vehicle and money in only two days,” says Yonah.
He says the man never came back and after four days, he went to police to complain about the officer’s misconduct and for further help.
“When the complainant showed us the warrant card that was left behind, we suspected that it would be fake,” says one of the detectives handling the matter. He adds that he took it to police headquarters in Naguru for verification and it was found to be fake.
The officer says the suspect was tricked and came to police where he was arrested. “When we interrogated him where he got a warrant card, he revealed the names of senior police officer whom we have also started investigating,” says the detective.
Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Police Spokesperson when contacted confirmed the arrest of the Rujeru and said investigations have started. He says he is facing charges of forgery, Impersonation, uttering out false documents among others.
