A suspected UPDF officer was on Sunday morning shot and injured a traffic officer who tried to tow a military vehicle that was involved in an accident on Kira road, Kampala.
The army officer reportedly did not want the car to be towed.
The traffic officer has been identified as Police Constable Robert Mukebezi, who was seated on the passenger side of a breakdown truck that was towing a military Toyota Prado TX that had knocked a signpost of Kobil fuel station when they were intercepted by soldiers in a double cabin vehicle with military license plates at Ntinda traffic lights at around 6am.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the shooting of their officer by “unidentified persons dressed in military fatigue” who alighted from a military vehicle.
“The investigations are ongoing to establish the shooter,” Owoyesigyire said.
According to UPDF Ag Spokesperson Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu, the matter is under investigation by both the army and the police.
“The suspect is still on the run but a search for him is underway and very useful clues leading to his arrest have already been obtained,” Kakurungu said in a statement Sunday.
