Night Crackdown Nets 95 Suspects in Kampala Metropolitan Area

Must read

Kampala Metropolitan Area, police conducted coordinated disruptive operations on the night of 15th February 2026 in a continued effort to combat crime and restore public safety. The operations, which ran between 8:00pm and 1:30am, were carefully planned to target areas known for criminal activities, drug abuse, and repeated community complaints.

In the Nsangi Policing Division, officers moved into several areas including Kyengera, Kazinga, Nabaziza, Wakimese, Masanda, Kinaawa, Kikajjo, Kasenge, and Nakasozi. These locations had been identified as crime hotspots, especially for simple robberies, paver attacks, marijuana smoking, and other forms of disorder. Police officers carried out searches and patrols in blackspots and gathering points believed to be used by suspects. By the end of the operation, 80 suspects had been arrested.

At the same time, police in Kajansi also launched a similar operation at around 11:00pm. This followed growing complaints from residents about phone snatching, theft of vehicle number plates, burglaries, and other theft-related crimes. The operation focused on Akright Estate and Kinyarwanda, where officers inspected unfinished and abandoned buildings, construction sites, and bars operating beyond the permitted hours. These places were believed to be hiding spots for criminals.

The Kajansi operation resulted in the arrest of 15 suspects. Police confirmed that those arrested have been charged accordingly. All suspects from both operations are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court.

Police leaders say these operations are part of wider and sustained efforts to reduce crime across the Kampala Metropolitan Area. They emphasized that such coordinated actions will continue, especially in areas identified as crime-prone. Authorities have also encouraged members of the public to keep working closely with the police by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.

The recent operations send a strong message that law enforcement remains committed to protecting residents and ensuring that criminals have no safe space to operate within the city and surrounding areas.
