Police in Wakiso District are investigating a curious incident after recovering a rifle that had been abandoned in Nkowe Village, Kaliti Parish in Mende Subcounty. The firearm is believed to have been left behind by private security guards from Fountain Security, who had been assigned to guard Kham Resort—a company involved in welding and brickmaking.
According to police findings, the company’s property went missing on November 17, 2025. Unknown individuals reportedly stole several welding machines, grinders, and wires and vanished without a trace. Later, a police patrol team intercepted two unidentified suspects who were carrying some of the stolen items. These included three welding machines, two grinders, and a bundle of wires. However, as officers approached, the suspects took off into the darkness, abandoning the stolen property.
When police returned to the company premises for further checks, they discovered that the security guards on duty were nowhere to be found. Their gun and uniforms had been left behind in their room, raising strong suspicion that the guards may have played a role in the theft. Police believe the guards could have stolen the equipment themselves and escaped after realizing that officers were closing in.
The recovered rifle and machines have been taken in as exhibits to support ongoing investigations. A case of theft has been officially opened, and police are now working tirelessly to track down the suspects. Authorities have assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice as soon as they are apprehended.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, especially regarding the trust placed in private security companies. Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
