A 9-year-old pupil, Nanyonga Shanitah,has drowned in a water channel near her school, Kid’s Nest Nursery and Primary School in Kabuuma, Wakiso District.
According to police reports, Shanitah’s aunt had escorted her to school, but she returned home to pick up a forgotten pen. While crossing the water channel, she slipped and fell in.
The police received information about the suspected drowning at around 11:00 am and visited the scene to record statements from witnesses.
The school is approximately 10 meters from the water channel, which carries a significant amount of water.
Unfortunately, the body has not been retrieved yet, but the police marine team is working to recover it.
The school director, kibirango Esther, and School Askari Ssentongo Peter have been arrested to help in investigations. Confirms Patrick Onyango the police spokesperson Kampala metropolitan area.
