Must read

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to officially begin his journey toward the 2026 general elections by picking nomination forms this Saturday. He will collect the forms from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission offices, where he will express interest in two key positions Chairman of the NRM and the party’s Presidential flag bearer.

This announcement was made by the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, during a press conference held earlier today. Dr. Tanga confirmed that President Museveni, like all other interested candidates, will personally pick up the expression of interest forms.

“The President and National Chairman of NRM will express interest and also pick nomination forms by himself,” Dr. Tanga said. “He will pick forms for two positions one for party chairperson and another for presidential flag bearer, should he be given the opportunity.”

The process of picking expression of interest forms for all positions within the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) is scheduled to start next week, running from June 26 to July 1. After this, official nominations of the aspirants will take place on July 4.

Meanwhile, across the country, preparations for the 2026 elections are already gaining momentum. Nominations for Members of Parliament and district chairperson aspirants are currently in their second week, taking place at the Electoral Commission offices on Plot 13, Kyadondo Road in Kampala.

As Uganda prepares for the next general elections, all eyes are once again on President Museveni, who has led the country since 1986. His move to seek another term as NRM chairman and flag bearer signals the beginning of what is expected to be a highly watched and competitive election season.
