The Shadow Minister for Defence, Hon Derrick Nyeko has revealed plans to prioritize the amendment to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Act, 2005, to provide for the vetting of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Deputy CDF by Parliament, in order to ascertain their competence & integrity before assuming offices, as top of Opposition agenda in 2025/26.
His proposal is contained in the 2025/26 Alternative Ministerial Policy Statement for the Defence Sector, where he questioned why the Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Prisons are vetted by Parliament, but the CDF is exempted from any form of independent scrutiny by any public organ.
