Must read

Police at Katwe have arrested five suspects in connection with a recent surge in the theft of motor vehicle number plates in Ndejje, Mutundwe, and Masajja. The suspects are alleged to have stolen number plates from vehicles, left their phone contacts behind, and then demanded money from the vehicle owners in exchange for their return.

Authorities launched search operations in several locations, successfully recovering over 20 stolen number plates. Some of the recovered plates include UAX 009/C, UAZ 753/W, UA 613BQ, UAY 398/Z, and UBH 385/H. Police say the recovered plates are being returned to their rightful owners as investigations continue.

The arrest of the suspects is part of a broader effort by Katwe Police to curb rising cases of theft and extortion in the area. Residents are being urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and safeguard their vehicles. Police have also promised to strengthen patrols and increase surveillance in vulnerable neighborhoods to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The suspects are expected to face charges related to theft, extortion, and criminal conspiracy. Police continue to investigate if the stolen number plates were being used for other criminal activities.
