Over 200 Arrested in Major Kampala Security Operations

Must read

The Kampala Metropolitan Police, working closely with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Crime Intelligence Units, have carried out several successful operations across Kampala, Mukono, and Nansana in a strong move to fight crime and restore safety. These operations, which took place between July 21 and July 22, led to the arrest of over 200 suspects.

On the night of July 21, between 11:00 PM and 3:40 AM, a joint security team raided Namuyenge village, Nabuti zone, and Bajjo zone in Mukono. A total of 24 suspects were arrested. These individuals were reportedly involved in smoking opium, waylaying people, and robbery. All of them are now being held at Mukono and Seeta police stations.

Later that same day, around 10:00 AM, police conducted another intelligence-led operation in central Kampala. This time, they worked with local leaders to target individuals posing as street children, bottle collectors, and casual cleaners—many of whom were allegedly attacking and robbing innocent people. The sweep covered areas such as Kiseka, Nakasero, Old Taxi Park, and Kampala Road, leading to the arrest of 167 suspects. They were taken to CPS Kampala, charged, and detained.

On the night of July 22, another major operation was carried out in the Nansana policing area, focusing on known criminal hideouts. This led to the arrest of 11 more suspects, and exhibits of opium were recovered from the scene. These individuals are now facing charges related to the possession of narcotics.

Police say these operations are just the beginning of a larger campaign to clean up city streets and make communities safer. Residents are being urged to stay alert and report suspicious activity as security forces continue their efforts to restore law and order.
