In a major step toward empowering Ugandans and supporting wealth creation, Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has announced the arrival of 57,325 freehold land titles for vulnerable communities across seven districts. These districts include Bukedea, Soroti, Serere, Isingiro, Ntungamo, Maracha, and Kikuube.
The land titles were provided under a special government program led by the NRM (National Resistance Movement), aimed at helping people who normally cannot afford the high cost of land registration. “Getting a land title is very expensive for many families, yet it’s very important in building wealth,” Minister Nabakooba said.
She called upon Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and other local leaders in the selected districts to work closely with her ministry. She urged them to organize public events where these titles can be officially handed over to the beneficiaries. The goal is to ensure that the rightful landowners receive their documents in a transparent and dignified manner.
Receiving a land title not only gives families legal ownership of their land, but also helps them access government services, loans, and protection from land grabbers. It brings peace of mind and opens doors to economic opportunities.
This effort by the Ministry of Lands shows the government’s commitment to fighting land insecurity, reducing poverty, and promoting development through secure land ownership.
