A three-year-old girl, Nyaketcho Agnes, was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2025, in Nyanama zone, Rubaga Division, Kampala. The incident has left her family and community in shock, raising concerns about child safety and the growing menace of fraudulent schemes in the city.
According to the victim’s mother, Athieno Agnes, who works with Movit Company, she had left home on October 31 to go to work, leaving her children in the care of her sister-in-law, Abbo Catherine. Around 1:00 a.m. on November 1, a group of seven people—three women and four men—arrived at the house, knocking loudly and demanding to see Athieno and her husband, Opendi Denis. When they realized the parents were not home, the assailants kidnapped little Nyaketcho and warned Abbo Catherine not to inform anyone, before fleeing to an unknown location.
Police from Nyanama Police Post, Katwe Division, have launched an investigation, opening a case file on the child’s abduction. Statements have been taken from the mother and Abbo Catherine, and the scene has been visited by officers, but the victim has not yet been recovered.
Investigations reveal that the father of the child, Opendi Denis, has reportedly been involved with Zunulula Tours and Travels, a company in Nyanama accused of defrauding people by promising overseas employment. Allegedly, Opendi and his associates closed the office and disappeared with clients’ passports and money, and authorities have so far been unable to locate him for questioning.
The case has sent shockwaves through the Nyanama community, with residents expressing fear and calling for urgent action. Police continue to track leads in hopes of rescuing the child safely and bringing those responsible for the abduction and related fraud to justice.
