Nsangi Police Division has arrested three key suspects linked to a notorious gang of panga-wielding thugs that has been terrorizing local residents. The arrests are seen as a major breakthrough in restoring security in the area.

The suspects have been identified as Niwagaba Shaban, Turinawe Eddie, and Kawakki Sulaiman. Police say that Niwagaba and Turinawe face charges of murder and aggravated robbery, while Kawakki is charged with possessing suspected stolen property.

Authorities revealed that Kawakki allegedly buys and resells stolen phones, and during a raid, police recovered several suspected stolen devices from his shop in downtown Kampala. This evidence is expected to strengthen the case against him.

Residents of Nsangi have long lived in fear of the gang, which reportedly carried out violent attacks with machetes and pangas. The arrests are likely to dismantle the gang and provide much-needed relief to the local community.

The police spokesperson, SSP P Onyango, confirmed the arrests and said that the suspects are expected to appear in court next week to face the charges. He added that investigations are ongoing and that more arrests could follow.

Security in Nsangi had been a major concern after reports of violent robberies and attacks on residents. Many people had avoided going out at night due to fear of gang activity, impacting local businesses and daily life.

Police say the gang’s operations included robbery, theft, and resale of stolen items, contributing to a growing sense of insecurity in the area. Residents have welcomed the arrests, hoping this will serve as a warning to other criminal groups.

Authorities also emphasized that the public should report suspicious activity to help prevent further crimes and ensure that all gang members are brought to justice.

The arrests mark a significant step in tackling organized crime in Nsangi, signaling that police are taking aggressive measures to protect communities from violent gangs.

As the suspects await their court appearance, the residents of Nsangi are cautiously optimistic that their streets will finally become safer and that justice will be served.
