Police, City Robbers Exchange Bullets In Apartment, Guns Recovered

Police in Masanafu last night spent over two hours exchanging live bullets, with armed robbers who had camped in one of the apartments. In the process of exchanging fire, one of the police officers was shot by armed robbers who were inside. The incident occurred at Kinooya zone, masanafu village in Rubaga division Kampala district at around 5:00am.

Patrick Onyango the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said police raided the apartment after they received intelligence that some two armed robbers rented an apartment and have been conducting their missions.

“We got intelligence that people armed with guns were renting an apartment and were not security operatives. We deployed our operatives around the apartment but as we tried to flash armed thugs outside, they began firing bullets to our officers,” said Onyango adding that officers retaliated, and one was arrested while the other escaped.

Onyango adds that the arrested thug has been identified as Mulunda Stanley and is currently detained at Central Police Station Kampala as investigations continue. “We recovered identity card in the names of Kasirye Richard who we suspect was together with Stanley.

The police mouthpiece adds that police recovered two AK47 guns, two magazines with 32 live ammunitions, a number plate Reg UAM046J, a hammer and court documents No. 939/ 2016 criminal case No. 03/2016.
