Police Crack Down on Criminal Gangs in Kira Municipality

Must read

Police in Kira Division, working together with other security agencies, have carried out an operation aimed at disrupting criminal gangs in Buwate–Najjera, Kira Municipality, as part of efforts to improve safety in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The operation took place on the night of 29th January 2026 at around 10:00 pm. According to police, ten suspects were arrested during the raid. The individuals were allegedly found red-handed inside a wooden structure where they were smoking substances believed to be narcotics. Security officers recovered exhibits including rolled sticks and powdered leaves suspected to be illegal drugs.

Preliminary investigations suggest that members of the group use narcotics before engaging in criminal acts such as waylaying pedestrians and stoning moving vehicles, which has raised concern among residents in the area.

The suspects are currently being held in police custody and are expected to appear in court. Police have registered a case of possession of narcotic substances, specifically opium, as investigations continue.

Authorities have assured the public that similar security operations will continue during and after the election period to maintain law and order. Police say the ongoing efforts are intended to protect communities and ensure the safety of people and their property.

The statement was issued by SP R. Kawala, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
