Police in Kampala have intensified efforts to fight crime, carrying out coordinated operations in both KMP East and KMP North. On 18th February 2026, officers from Kira Road Police Division launched a major operation in Mulimira and surrounding areas, targeting individuals known to gather at suspected narcotic smoking spots. These areas had reportedly become dangerous for the public, with some suspects attacking innocent people, especially in traffic jams and along feeder roads. During the operation, a total of 25 suspects were arrested. They are now in police custody, awaiting processing and subsequent arraignment in court.
In a separate operation on the night of 17th February 2026, police in Kito, under Matuga Police Division, apprehended four suspected narcotic users. These individuals were believed to be involved in criminal activities and are currently detained for interrogation. Authorities have confirmed that they will soon be presented in court.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to reduce criminal activities and ensure public safety. Police officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to make their neighborhoods safer. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer of Kampala Metropolitan Police, reaffirmed that such operations will continue, demonstrating the force’s commitment to protecting citizens and keeping criminal elements off the streets.
