Police in Kampala Metropolitan have carried out a series of disruptive operations targeting criminals involved in phone snatching, drug abuse, robberies, and other related crimes. The operations followed intelligence reports and public concerns about rising criminal activities in several areas.
The operations were conducted in Wandegeya, Kira Road, Nansana, Kirinya, and Jinja Road policing areas. Police focused on known crime black spots where suspects are believed to operate, especially during late hours of the night.
During an operation in Old Mulago and Lower Nsoba under Wandegeya Police Division, 16 suspects were arrested for wandering with intent to commit crime. Some of them were found loitering late at night and failed to properly identify themselves, while others were reportedly involved in drug abuse and gambling.
In another operation along Mawanda Road and Kamwokya under Kira Road Police Division, police arrested 8 suspects believed to be involved in phone snatching and drug abuse. The suspects were picked from areas that have previously been identified as crime hotspots.
Meanwhile, operations in Nansana and Kirinya also led to the arrest of several suspects. In Nansana, 10 men were arrested while in possession of suspected narcotics, while 8 other suspects were arrested in Kirinya and nearby areas over cases related to bag snatching, assault, house break-ins, and burglary. Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to fight crime in the Kampala Metropolitan area.
